April 2023 Kanan Sumiyoshi New York solo exhibition
Kounan Sumiyoshi’s solo exhibition in New York will start on April 18, 2023.
Popular series, original characters of dinosaurs, rabbits, and doudou birds are on display.
With fluent brushstrokes cultivated in calligraphy, all lines are drawn with Japanese brushes, which is Sumiyoshi’s unique style.
In this exhibition, there is also a work that stylized original calligraphy that reinterprets ancient characters in the background.
The character’s eyes use the “dragon eye”, which is a tradition of sumi ink painting.
Please also pay attention to the facial expressions of the comical and warm human characters.
